PHP 5.6 and 7.0 Transitioned to End of Life in December 2018

PHP 5.6 and 7.0 Transitioned to End of Life in December 2018

PHP, the open source programming and scripting language used by all websites built with WordPress, has transitioned versions 5.6 and 7.0 into end of life (EOL) as of December 2018. PHP has since ceased to offer critical security support for these versions. This end of life process is standard within PHP release cycles, and, as your partner, we are here to provide you with the guidance and tools to ensure a smooth upgrade to PHP 7.2.

If you are on a CI Web Group Refresh Plan, the website rebuild for PLP 7 and WP 5.0 is included and has already been started.

Deprecation Warnings

As with every new PHP version, there are some deprecated features to be aware of in version 7.2. These deprecations will log messages to your Apache error log in the User Portal, but will not cause site errors until the functionalities are removed in later versions of PHP.
This gives developers time to update their code with more modern equivalents. You can find a list of the deprecations in PHP 7.2, as well as their recommended modern solutions, on the PHP website.
